The workshop aims to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills and clinical judgement required to safely prepare, administer, monitor and manage infusion therapy and intravenous fluid administration in clinical practice.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe common intravenous fluid components, including crystolloids, electrolytes, additives used in clinical practice
- Implement appropriate nursing interventions for complications such as infiltration, extravasation, phlebitis and occlusion
- Use infusion equipment and consumables correctly to support safe delivery of therapy in general and oncology practices
- Apply infection prevention and aseptic non-touch technique principles during infusion therapy procedures
- Apply transfusion protocol in delivery of blood and blood products
- Apply the process of identifying, preventing, monitoring and managing risks associated with infusion therapy
- Apply effective communication and patient education strategies before, during and after infusion procedures
- Describe the services provided by Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy
